Discovery Festival Prize Booth Needs Volunteers to Sit Down In the Shade.
That’s right - we need parents to man the prize booth at the upcoming Discovery Festival! You really can’t beat this cushy, one-hour volunteer position.
If you’ve been to the Festival before, you know the prize booth gets busier and busier as the afternoon wears on, so we're making sure there are more volunteers manning the booth towards the end of the day.
So if you are looking for a nice shady spot to sit and chat while you eat your delicious bake sale goods, please consider a stint at the Prize Booth!

Bake Sale + Cupcake Walk - No sign-up necessary for this, but if you love to bake, start thinking about what you’ll make for the Discovery Festival bake sale and Cupcake Walk. Sheri Castilyn (Giana, Rm 7) is your contact person for all things baked: email@example.com.
Adopt a Bulletin Board - We need volunteers to mount art for our 2019 Art Show (a special part of the Discovery Festival)! Our hallways need to be filled with your kiddos’ magnificently creative artworks. Choose a board, check in with Robin or Mandy, and we will provide you with the work to hang and the pushpins and tape. You will have Thursday, May 2nd and Friday, May 3rd to mount this amazing exhibit. Sign-up sheets are attached to all the bulletin boards in the school - let us know the date and time of your availability on the board you choose (plan for 1 to 2 hours of work).
New Traditions Raffle: Last Call
Here’s a friendly reminder that the deadline for purchasing raffle tickets is Friday, May 3rd. Winners will be announced at the Discovery Festival on Sunday, May 5, and we have some great prizes:
Grand prize - Apple iPad
1st prize - Beach Blanket Babylon tickets
2nd prize - $100 Amazon Gift card
3rd prize - $100 gift card for Spinnaker restaurant
4th prize - Benzinger Winery tram tour
Pricing is $5 per ticket, $20 for five, and $40 for ten, and all funds go to our school. Ms. Debbie has more tickets if you need them. Please have your child return money and tickets to Ms. Debbie in the office.

The New Traditions yearbook is a hardcover book with over 60 full-color pages, filled to the brim with photos of every student and the fun and memorable times we shared this year. It’s made with love all throughout the year by our very own Jon Michaelsen (Annika - 5th, Gemma - 3rd), and you can order it now for just $40!
If the cost is prohibitive, please talk to your child’s teacher or to Ms. Debbie. We want everyone to enjoy this one-of-a-kind bit of New Traditions history.

You could put together grant proposals for our school
Did you know that many companies and foundations want to give some of their money to help kids in education? Whole Foods, Home Depot, and many more award between $500 and $5,000 EACH to schools in the form of grants. Grants are a fantastic way to raise more money for our school WITHOUT asking our families to donate money.
This is much more of a “project manager” type role than it is a job for a writer. Amy Millward (PTA communications/Dragon Den) is on call to help with the actual writing, or to do all the writing entirely, if writing is not your thing. What we really need is for someone to identify some grants that our school has a shot at and then pull together the information each grant proposal requires (this will involve being in contact with PTA board members and Principal Alderete). Once the proposal has been looked over by a few different people to make sure it’s ready, you would submit it by that particular grant’s deadline.
