Welcome to New Families

Tuesday, April 9 at 9:45am, Cafeteria

Let’s get together to welcome the new families for the upcoming school year!

On Friday, March 15, SFUSD will send the offer letters to the families that applied for the 2019-20 school year. Registration at New Traditions will happen in the weeks of March 18-22 and April 1-5. Our first event for the new families will be in conjunction with our monthly Principal’s Coffee in April. Please, bring some food to welcome our new community members. Thank you!

And speaking of new families - we need a new head of TOURS

Sheri Castilyn (Giana, 5th) is stepping down as head of tours, as this is her last year at New Traditions. Thank you for everything you have done for our school, Sheri! And now we’re looking for someone - or perhaps two people, if you work well as a team - to take on this role. For most parents, the tour was critical in helping us to envision our child at New Traditions. Would you consider being a part of shaping that experience for next year’s prospective parents? Please reach out to Sheri if you’re curious: scastilyn@gmail.com.

Purchase a dedication in the 2018-19 yearbook!

Would you like to purchase a dedication for your student in this year’s yearbook?

Here are the price breakdowns for the dedications:

1/16 page: $50 (usually can accommodate text)

1/8 page: $75 (usually can accommodate a photo or text)

1/4 page: $150 (usually can accommodate a photo AND text)

Reach out to Jon Michaelsen at jon@braincloud.tv if you’re interested in doing this.

Save the Date: Discovery Festival 2019 is on the Horizon

Now that the sun is shining and the days are getting warmer, it’s easier to picture ourselves at the annual Discovery Festival!

Sunday, May 5th 12-4pm

Mark your calendar, and check out these ways you can start getting ready for the fun....

Discovery Festival Bake Sale

Who loves baking? I want to get the word out now so people have time to make their baking plans for the festival. The bake sale table is always fabulous and it cannot happen without you!

We will need LOTS of homemade baked goods for the bake sale table and to supply the Cupcake Walk Game (like a cake walk) with delicious cupcakes for every winner. The more volume and variety the better.

  • Homemade baked goods only please. Things with visual appeal are what sell first so get creative!

  • Nothing store bought as those items do not sell well.

  • Cupcakes and cookies are very popular. Don't forget about things like bread, muffins, pies, tarts, etc.

  • No nuts in anything!

  • Some vegan and gluten free baked items are much appreciated.

  • Please individually wrap each item to maintain freshness and cleanliness. This especially applies to cookies. Wrapping cupcakes is not necessary. Use of clear plastic wrap or bags is best.

  • Bring your donations in disposable containers like paper bags, boxes or foil pans as the containers will not be returned.

Please let me know if there are any questions. Thanks so much!

Discovery Festival Ticket Booth Volunteers Needed

As the parent in charge of the Discovery Festival ticket booth, I am looking for 14 volunteers to work at the booths this year. Shifts are either from 11:30am-1:45pm or 1:30pm-3:45pm.You are also welcome to sign up as a pair if you want to split a shift with someone. The shifts overlap so that the first shift volunteers can train the second shift volunteers. Ticket booth volunteers orient festival goers to the Festival and sell food and game tickets. There are two booths, one at the front entrance and one at the back entrance. It is easy and fun!

Sign up sheet for ticket booth shifts

Thank you so much!

Greening Committee Update

If you've been excited about our Greening Days so far and the efforts in our green spaces, or have ideas for greening in the future, come join us for one of our committee meetings! They're open to everybody! If you're not into meetings, but still have ideas or feedback, just join our committee electronically, so you can contribute to the email discussion.

Please note, though, that the meeting today has been rescheduled until after spring break, but all future meetings are on the FreshSchools calendar.

If meetings and committees are not for you, but you still want to contribute, then you can just join us for the next Greening Day to get your hands dirty. It'll be on Saturday, 6/1, just before the summer break.

A BIG THANK YOU to everybody who came on Sunday to help weed, prune, mulch and build!

Parents/Caregivers - if you love a good board game, you’re in luck!

Join a handful of other parents/caregivers for a New Traditions Moms and/or Dads Board Game Night. We've done a couple of these in a smaller circle before and would like open it up to everybody! First 8 to RSVP yes are in:

DIY Family Camp by New Traditions Parents!

Are you looking for options for what to do the first 3 days of summer break? Either just for your kid (drop off) or with your kid, but you'd prefer company for yourself and your kid(s)?

If so, join us for a DIY Family Camp - Explore SF. We just did one of these for Lunar New Year, and the kids had a blast. Good hiking, community snack and lunch, and lots of play. Not too many summer camps are offered for those awkward first 3 days, and I don't actually want a camp just yet. So let's create our own adventure! No age restriction.

Tentative plan

Day 1, Wednesday, 6/5: Hike Lands End (El Camino Del Mar and 32nd), lunch at Sutro Bath, afternoon at Ocean Beach. Uber/Lyft back to starting point. https://www.evite.com/event/02E6GNPFINC6ZAMTUEPJEWMTEHHNEM/activity?gid=02E6GNPFINC6ZADCWEPJEWMTETXLJQ&previous=home

Day 2, Thursday, 6/6: Start at Conservatory of Flowers and walk/scooter/bike to Park Chalet. Snack/lunch at blue playground. Pick up at Park Chalet.

Day 3, Friday, 6/7: Academy of Sciences or Zoo or Discovery Museum or Magic Mountain Park & Curiodyssey or TBD. All of these are up for discussion and will be finalized based on preferences of attending families.

RSVP Here: https://www.evite.com/event/02E6A5SCMGG4XMR4GEPJFGPI6DICIA/activity?gid=02E6A5SCMGG4XMY64EPJFGPI6JKEJI&previous=home

Cost: NONE, of course. If you'd like to donate to our NT PTA, just follow the link below. Suggested donation is 0-$20 for any kids joining with an adult.

Drop Off Option: You can also drop off your kid (suggested donation to NT FONT: $75), if we have enough adults joining to ensure a 5:1 ratio. Feel free to sign up and indicate it's for 1 child only, no adults, and a few weeks before the day, we'll confirm.

Please feel free to RSVP “Maybe” if you're intrigued, but can't commit right now.

Bienvenue en classe de français! Welcome to French class!

2019-2020 registrations are now open for incoming kindergarteners and current New Traditions students for EFBA’s French after-school program.

For the 2019-2020 school year, New Traditions will continue to offer EFBAs twice-weekly French after-school classes for French-speaking and Non-French speaking students. The EFBA after-school program includes 54 classes, spread out over the course of the school year (September through May). Classes meet twice per week. Each class is 1.5 hours long, with 30 minutes of playtime before class begins.
