On Friday, March 15, SFUSD will send the offer letters to the families that applied for the 2019-20 school year. Registration at New Traditions will happen in the weeks of March 18-22 and April 1-5. Our first event for the new families will be in conjunction with our monthly Principal’s Coffee in April. Please, bring some food to welcome our new community members. Thank you!

Sheri Castilyn (Giana, 5th) is stepping down as head of tours, as this is her last year at New Traditions. Thank you for everything you have done for our school, Sheri! And now we’re looking for someone - or perhaps two people, if you work well as a team - to take on this role. For most parents, the tour was critical in helping us to envision our child at New Traditions. Would you consider being a part of shaping that experience for next year’s prospective parents? Auction Success & A Few More Goodies

Our Auction Night fundraiser event was a huge success, raising more than $140,000 in donations to support our school. This event wouldn’t be possible without the time, dedication, and donations of so many of you - including our classroom art volunteers, count-me-in hosts, individual donors, amazing teachers and principal, and all of you who came and supported the event. A special thanks to our matching grant donors whose $40,000 in anonymous contributions helped motivate a record-breaking paddle raise! Finally, a huge thanks to all the auction committee members who spent the last 5 months planning the event, soliciting donations, and doing countless things to make such an event happen. Thank You!

Sign-ups for Count-Me-Ins and classroom Fund-A-Needs are still available!

We have a whole bunch of really fun events being hosted by NT families and NT teachers over the next 8 months. Many of these Count-Me-Ins still have spots available! So now’s your chance to sign up and join in on the fun. There are great activities for adults, kids, and families. Just visit our auction website and you can read the descriptions and buy spots online. We also have several Fund-A-Needs still available as well. You can make contributions towards these classroom or faculty needs on our website as well. Deadline for sign-ups is Wed, March 20.

Now that the sun is shining and the days are getting warmer, it’s easier to picture ourselves at the annual Discovery Festival!

Discovery Festival Bake Sale

 

Who loves baking? We want to get the word out now so people have time to make their baking plans for the festival. Our booth is always fabulous and we cannot do it without you!

 

Guidelines:

  • Homemade baked goods only please. Things with visual appeal are what sell first so get creative!

  • Nothing store bought as those items do not sell well.  

  • Cupcakes and cookies are very popular. Don't forget about things like bread, muffins, pies, tarts, etc. Something different is always fun.

  • No nuts in anything!

  • Some vegan and gluten free baked items are much appreciated.

  • Please individually wrap each item to maintain freshness and cleanliness. This especially applies to cookies. Wrapping cupcakes is not necessary. Use of clear plastic wrap or bags is best.

  • Bring your donations in disposable containers like paper bags, boxes or foil pans so that we do not have to keep up with containers that need to be returned.

 

Of course, we will need LOTS of homemade baked goods for the bake sale table. The more volume and variety the better. We want the tables to overflow! The cupcake walk will be changed up a bit this year but we still need the cupcakes! If beautiful cakes are what you like to bake, the silent cake auction will also happen again this year. More info to follow on that from Joy Lagos.

Discovery Festival Ticket Booth Volunteers Needed

 

As the parent in charge of the Discovery Festival ticket booth, I am looking for 14 volunteers to work at the booths this year. Shifts are either from 11:30am-1:45pm or 1:30pm-3:45pm.You are also welcome to sign up as a pair if you want to split a shift with someone. The shifts overlap so that the first shift volunteers can train the second shift volunteers. Ticket booth volunteers orient festival goers to the Festival and sell food and game tickets. There are two booths, one at the front entrance and one at the back entrance. It is easy and fun!

The Renegade Tinkering Club Summer Camps

 

The Renegade Tinkering Club is excited to announce our new Haight summer camp location at Xian Yan Academy on Page Street at Stanyan.

 

Girls only and coed kids STEM camps for rising 1st - 6th graders include: Chemistry (investigate substances and the ways in which they interact, combine and change), Take Flight (launch your imagination into the stratosphere by making a variety of flying machines and exploring the concept of aeronautics), Tinker Tales (create a graphic novel by building small scale sets and characters, taking photos with iPad and printing to combine with your handwritten final story), Toymakers (make toys, then play with them all the while exploring the science behind them).

Buchanan YMCA Summer Camps @ New Traditions

 

This summer the Buchanan YMCA summer camps will be held at New Traditions!

 

Here’s a message from Bill Burke, Buchanan YMCA’s Senior Director of Community Programs:

 

We have a new camp model this summer and we have developed themes, specialty camps, field trips, project based activities and a summer learning loss curriculum focused on engaging our youth throughout the summer. Jackson Livingston, who used to be our New Traditions Site Coordinator and now is our current Site Coordinator at our Chinese Immersion De Avila After School program, will be our Camp Coordinator, overseeing all of our programs and offerings.

We know many kids here love to play soccer, especially during the summer. Now your kid’s summer of soccer can also benefit all New Traditions kids with a generous donation from SoccerInsight.
