The Peace Path

By Principal Julie Alderete

Throughout conversations with the SSC last year, we recognized the need to support our kids with a common language for conflict resolution - hopefully something they can use at home and at school. Earlier this week, with the help of students in the YMCA program, Charlie "installed" a Peace Path on our school yard. We envision this tool will be useful for our teachers, noon time monitors, YMCA Staff, and Junior Leaders on the yard.

The Peace Path is a step-by-step conflict resolution activity that teaches social and emotional skills. The Peace Path empowers children with self-regulation and necessary communication skills. It also provides our community with a common language to support conflict resolution.

At the end of the day, while we cannot always avoid conflict, we must prepare our kids (and ourselves) to confront conflict with kindness and respect.

Principal’s Coffee & Family Potluck

Tuesday, November 13th at 9:45am in the cafeteria

Come gather in the cafeteria to mingle with other parents for some informal conversation and a Q&A with Principal Alderete. The event starts at 9:45am, and Principal Alderete will join at 10am.

Please, bring some food to share. Free coffee courtesy of Manitas Café!

These coffees take place monthly on the second Tuesday of each month, except for the month of May, when it will take place on May 21 (the third Tuesday of May).

Unfortunately, school parking is not available for this event due to ongoing PE activities at that time, so please plan accordingly.

Lost & Found

Please, come check the two racks of clothing in the area between the Cafeteria and the Edible Garden, and the little cart with lunch boxes, containers, water bottles, and miscellaneous items next to Ms. Debbie's office.

All items with no names on them were donated just after the Dragon Walk, and our racks are already filling up again very quickly!

Stop by and peruse - you may find things you didn’t even know you lost (it happens to me every time!).
