Thank You Carole Penta
LONG LIVE THE MOTHER OF DRAGON (WALKS)
Every few years, the thought of a particular parent graduating and leaving NT fills us with mild dread. This year, that parent is the tireless Carole Penta.
For the two of you who haven’t met Carole, we should start with a backgrounder. When she’s not escorting your kid from the car, or being your class liaison, or checking you into the auction; she is reigning supreme as the Mother of the Dragon Walk. In the beginning, the Dragon Walk was seen as a way to get the kids some exercise, have a little fun and bond as a community. (Oh and maybe we can make a few bucks.) Under her guidance, our quiet little walk in the park has grown in scope and fun to become a truly massive fundraising event for New Traditions.
Given this is Carole’s last year at NT, we wanted to take a moment to offer a huge THANK YOU for all of her tireless efforts for the Walk and beyond. Please be sure to tell her as well when you see her at dropoff, or in the halls, or volunteering at yet another event.
Another great way to share your enthusiasm for what she has built is to be part of the team to take on the management of next year’s Dragon Walk! Interested? Contact the FONT Board at email@example.com.

Greening Day #2
We had a wonderfully successful 2nd Greening Day! A huge “Thank You” to everybody who joined. It was nice to see that many families joined for as long as fit their weekend - some came for 30 minutes, and other stayed from even before the event started until after 4pm! Every hand helps!
We planted 57 native plants, most of them purchased from Sloat Gardens and the SF Botanical Garden Plant Sale, and some donated by the Botanical Garden! The volunteers did it right - they removed the mulch first, dug holes, added compost, watered, planted the plants, watered again, and put the mulch back. It took time and many hands. We also recreated the stepping stone nature path, filled the giant hole in Twig Town (kids have over time dug in the dirt and removed a lot of soil) with a full truck load of top soil, weeded and cleaned up the sidewalk gardens, and painted the wall of the bungalow a bright and happy blue.
Please note that we also erected a temporary orange construction fence, to protect the new plants and help them survive the next 6-8 weeks. Please help us by reminding kids to be careful and gentle with the area behind the fence, until the plants get stronger.
Tell the good folks at Manitas that you appreciate their donation of coffee to fuel the volunteers at our greening days (and other events), if you can :-).
Thank you all for coming together to care for our gardens and for your continued support!

Scholastic Book Fair: Help Needed
The Scholastic book fair is coming, November 18-22 and we need your help to make it a big success. The main hallway will be filled with hundreds of books for our students to explore before and after school. The book fair raises funds to purchase new books for the library and gets books directly into classrooms via teacher wish lists. We are looking for volunteers throughout the week and have several time slots available, can you help us bring the book fair to life? Please sign up today (link below) or email firstname.lastname@example.org
