Important Dates for ASE: Session 2

As we approach the end of Session 1, we are getting ready to roll out the After School Enrichments (ASE) and registrations for Session 2. We have taken the feedback from our survey and are implementing a few changes to streamline the registration process and to provide a better experience for families and students in our program.
Please take a look below to see some important dates for Session 2:

  • October 16 - Registration Opens
    • Links will sent out via FreshSchools for both Enrichment Only and Traditional YMCA families
  • October 21 - Registration closes
  • October 25 - Rosters completed and posted
    • Traditional YMCA families must complete any schedule changes before the first day of Session 2 programming
  • November 4 - Session 2 Starts

** Four classes will be offered outside the YMCA supported ASE program: Ceramics-Advanced, Ceramics 101, Animation: The Art of Stop Motion Filmmaking, and Renegade Tinkering Toymakers: Coed Club.  These classes are not included as part of YMCA After Care, so enrollment cost is in addition to any YMCA After Care fees.  Registration for these programs will be via Homeroom starting October 16 through October 29.

SFUSD Student and Family Handbook

The SFUSD Student and Family Handbook contains important information about district policies, student rights, useful contact information, procedures for families to access additional information and support, as well as anti-bullying policies and much, much more.  If you would like a printed copy of the handbook, please stop by the front office. Pupil Services can also print the handbooks in 8 different languages - just let us know!

Emergency Preparedness

Every year as a staff,  we update and practice our Site Emergency Plan and Procedures.   This plan supports our school site to respond and recover from an emergency, disaster, or event resulting in the disruption of normal school operations. Here is an overview of our planned  Emergency Drills for the first 6 months of school. We will provide more information regarding future drills in the coming months.

August             Fire Drill

September     Fire Drill (during an inconvenient time to challenge our systems)

October             Fire Drill + "The Great Shake Out"

November     Fire Drill + Lock Out Drill

December     Fire Drill  (with a missing person to challenge our procedures)

January             Fire Drill + Lock Down Drill

The Great Shakeout: International ShakeOut Day is every third Thursday of October. As part of our emergency preparedness, on October 17, at 10:17am, all SFUSD schools will participate in the Great ShakeOut to learn what to do before, during, and after an earthquake. Teachers will prepare kids to, "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" as described at

If an emergency does occur at a school, we will notify parents as quickly as possible using a variety of means including text, email and phone calls. In order to receive messages, we must have your current contact information.

To receive emergency text notifications, text “YES” to 67587 from your mobile phone. Please note, this will only work if your mobile number is entered correctly in the district’s system already. More information about SFUSD’s safety and emergency plans can be found here:

Scholastic Book Fair: Help Needed

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming, November 18-22 and we need your help to make it a big success. The main hallway will be filled with hundreds of books for our students to explore before and after school. The Book Fair raises funds to purchase new books for the library and gets books directly into classrooms via teacher wish lists. We are looking for volunteers throughout the week and have several time slots available, can you help us bring the book fair to life? Please sign up today (link below) or email
